JOANNA SELLORS
Modern Abstract Artist
About the Artist: A Fusion of Hardedge style and Modern Abstraction.
Joanna's work comprises differing styles of geometric based painting - distinctive hardedge form alongside a more free flowing abstract centric approach.
Influence derives primarily from childhood, finding patterns and following lines within the geometric wallpapered rooms of her parents homes, whilst being surrounded by an eclectic mix of abstract artwork on the walls.
More subliminally, the years spent at an English boarding school, within the walls and grounds of impressive classically designed architecture incorporating geometric principles and proportions that an understanding and love of the inherent order and beauty found in mathematical relationships was reflected into her artwork.
The motto Circumornatae ut Similtudo Templi translates to 'Adorned as a likeness of the Temple'.
Using this architectural language, alongside the symbology of multi layered symbols Joanna's paintings are a way of expressing her knowledge and thoughts within an abstract field of reference. Precision and clarity of line brings to the visual communication a sense of order and the resulting images particularly within the 'Into the Silence' collection can be interpreted as entrance points into the transcendental realms of sacred spaces.
Joanna's work has been used on a variety of textiles from leather to large silk hanging panels, wallpaper and fabric. She has produced artwork for commissions from book cover designs to large scale ceramic installations. Exhibitions have included the UK and Ibiza and work can be found in private collections internationally.
